So now that the holidays are halfway over with, its time to begin planning 2016 for Oppositelock.

Planning isnt easy, especially if you’ve decided to not join is for an event. There are over 100 people on the mailing list in the NJ/NY/PA/CT area, plus many more within facebook groups.

Getting large numbers of Oppos together has benefits, meeting and seeing people is a wonderful thing, and so is getting out from behind the keyboard. Its fun to chat over CAH or to share our experiences through text and photos, but know how close many of us are to each other simply means that its important to be social people with each other, over drinks, lunch, driving or at least hard parking with each other.

It doesnt matter if you drive a beater because its what you could afford, or a sports car because its what you wanted. Its important to get together with people and get to know them, as much like the holiday seasons are all about, friends and family are the best things we can have.

With that in mind, expect to see Oppo Meetups expand to more areas, more people and more events. Karting, RC racing, lunch and dinner get togethers and more, spreading throughout the world. If youre not sure if there are Oppos in your area, make it known and myself and a handful of other Oppos will work on finding something for you. We, as a community, are one of the best, biggest and most diverse “car club” I could ever rattle off. Members in every industry, every corner of the world and every walk of life.

For those of you in the greater NYC area, there will be more events this year. Keep our annual Tri State Meetup in mind, but know that Karting, RC racing and other fundraiser type events will come up. It’s time we make a face for our name, because we’re large enough to make that happen and leave a massive, very positive impression. We have the diversity and man (and woman) power to do so, and we really should make an effort to do so.

Once again, right around the holiday season while youre getting through your food comas and relaxing away from awkward family situations, shoot me an email if you havent already (you should know if you have by now), let me know your username and location, and we’ll start getting the ball rolling. If youre in the Greater NYC area, Ill be organizing the events, if youre in other locations, Ill get you in touch with people who are organizing events near you.

NY is a bit too far for me. I know there’s quite a few of us in the Boston area, it’d be cool to get a meet set up there.

Last September I went to the Lime Rock Historics Festival. While I know there were other Oppos there over the weekend I wasn’t able to find anyone despite wearing a shirt with OPPO emblazoned on the front. I think we should try to make it a formal meet this year.

is that the Pole Position at Destiny USA in Syracuse? Ive been there a couple times. Norskracer98 smoked me by a second last time I went, also to see the NY Fairgrounds Nationals carshow. But hey, it’ll be a blast if lots more people come.

Electric indoor karting was awesome. Met an Oppo there, had an awesome day, 11/10 would do again.

Its on my list to organize! Its just difficult because of cost, need to discuss a private event and the costs because not all Oppos are going to have $100+ to plunk down on racing for a whole day or afternoon.

Its a great track. The other track is much shorter, less action.

The day I was there, we had this one super aggressive guy that was kind of ruining the fun for us. Theres a pretty strict no contact rule, and one my second lap or so you can see my car jolt a little at turn 3, because I was bumped really hard. No one said anything to him either, which is why I intend on doing a private event sometime soon for Oppo this year.

Our local track has one good straight and one straight with a kink but the interior is so tight, there is little passing opportunity.
